These heavy hoops carry some of their own momentum, allowing you to focus on standing tall, engaging the core deeply, and building muscle throughout the body. In my classes we begin by warming up the core while lying down. Then we focus on strengthening the core by integrating cardio, dance, standing yoga movements, and circus tricks. We learn to hoop on the hands, arms, legs, above the head and all the way down the torso. It may seem to come slowly at first, but keep at it, and you will feel improvement every week. Smooth music with cultural rhythms come together to create this fun and varied class.

The Healing Art of Hooping
As Featured in spirithoops.com
Hooping makes our bodies feel great. We know it instantly when we pick up our first hula-hoop as a kid, and when we rediscover hooping with large handcrafted hoops as an adult. Spinning the hoop around our body and dancing with the hoop to music is fun, sensual, blissful, and creative. Hooping invokes laughter and smiles, and it improves health.
Hooping gently restores health and vitality through playful exploration of breath, movement, and awareness. Movement and breath coordinate to nurture the flexibility of our spine, strengthen the core musculature of the torso, and promote the integral functional of our organs. Optimal health is nurtured through hooping.
Hooping re-educates the body in conscious movement through: spiraling movements, sacral rocking, abdominal massage, and rhythmic movement. Spiraling, rocking, massage, and rhythm are primal motions of human life, beginning in the womb. Adopting these motions through playful exercise invigorates the body and stimulates self-healing.

Hooping: The Revolutionary Ab Workout
by Kerry Weber
People worldwide are falling in love with the new phenomenon of hooping. The new custom-made adult size hoops are heavier and larger in diameter than the “hula hoops” you may remember from your childhood. These new hoops are easier for beginners to learn to control with ease, and you can eventually work up to learning tricks and finding your hoop to be your new, beloved dance partner! These heavier hoops also give you a solid massage, allowing rhythmic, meditative movement when desired to ease lower back pain, abdominal pain, calm the nerves and put on a smile. Hooping movement is sensual but not overtly sexual, allowing you to develop self-love and emotional grounding through dance.

The pleasures of hooping have generated an entire hoop culture that is varied and vast. Classes can be found in all major cities, as well as sub-communities of hoopers who live and travel together. Hoops are used in circus arts and have been found in underground communities for almost two decades. Many hoopers dazzle people in concert and festival atmospheres with their stunning tricks, flexibility, and agility on special blinking light or fire hoops. There are even “hoopie awards” which recognize the most creative hooping performances and videos each year. Hooping is spreading like wildfire across this nation of people seeking fitness, personal empowerment and fun in one small—or shall we say round—package!
And we will donate it to yoga-inspired charities across the United States. Your mat will then be used to teach at risk populations about the benefits of yoga. There is no limit on how many mats you can donate... Support the cause and help spread the positive message of yoga throughout the world.
