Teacher Education
The Studio Yoga Teacher Preparation Course is designed to give students a deeper understanding of Yoga and at the same time develop the skills needed to teach a beginner Yogasana class.
This program is directed and taught by Theresa Rowland, an Intermediate Junior III Iyengar Yoga Instructor with over 43 years of experience. We have graduated manyh exceptional teachers who are teaching and running studios in NJ, around the country and abroad.
Your journey will encompass Teacher Seminars, Asana Classes, Pranayama Classes, Anatomy, Philosophy, Meditation, Asana Intensives, and Assisting.
Teacher Seminars
At the first level each Teacher Seminar will center around asana. Each month, 3 poses will be assigned to study and practice. Each student performs the pose and receives feedback. Other aspects of teaching and practicing, such as principles of yoga, may also be covered but will not be the core of the course.
Asana Classes
At Studio Yoga participants have many opportunities to deepen their asana practice and knowledge; with more than 50 classes a week it is easy to accommodate weekly yoga asana classes into busy schedules.
Pranayama Classes
Pranayama is the art of breathing and it is the fourth limb in Patanjali’s Astanga Yoga. Participants will have the opportunity to take monthly classes with Studio Yoga instructors Joni Wellness and Jay Stewart, as well as with guest Senior Iyengar Yoga Instructors.
Anatomy
To gain a greater understanding of asana and the body, Genny Kapuler will teach anatom
y as it pertains to yoga. Also, Laura Allard joins us from Colorado to teach weekend intensives in which students learn anatomy by building the muscles with clay on plastic skeletons.
Philosophy, Sanskrit, & Chanting
Yoga, as we know it, is a compilation of thousands of years of knowledge. To gain a better understanding of yoga, participants will learn more about classic yogic texts such as the Bhagavad-Gita, Yoga Sutras of Patanjali, and much more. Some of our guest instructors include Laksmi Nrsimha das and Leslie Freyberg.
Meditation
Meditation helps brings quietness to the mind and at the same time teaches the individual to look within. Participants will be able to explore different types of meditation from Buddhist to Mindfulness and many other styles.
Asana Intensives
Participants will also have the opportunity to take workshops with Senior Iyengar Yoga Instructors such as Lois Steinberg, Gabriela Giubilario, Kofi Busia, Sri Arun, and Christian and June Pisano. These individuals bring the knowledge and experience of many decades of practice. Many are also authors of books on yoga practice and have studied for many years with the Iyengar family.
What makes this program so unique is the depth and scope of the Studio Yoga Teacher Preparation Course. Students from New Jersey, Pennsylvania, New York, Maryland, and Delaware journey to our studio for this program.
